Gaelen Macdonald
A Zoo in My Luggage
Exhibition 14 - 24 September 2005

This week ‘A Zoo in my Luggage’
arrives at Canary postmarked from Timbuktu, unpacking an area
of interest still in the process of construction. Paleontological,
town planning, animal husbandry and archiving practices are
exposed and weighted unevenly. Gaelen furnishes the gallery
with a small representation of the scene, arranging a cargo
of little examples and creatures, including Cats, Cranes and
a Turkey.
By uncovering the infrastructure of organization
with a system of strings, virtuosity and counterweights, the
site of action is both incorporated and ignored.
Those who saw Gaelen’s Elam Master’s
Graduating Show last year won’t need to be told that
this show is a real whiz-banger. Ms Macdonald is an astute
hoarder, hanger and maker and we’ve been trying to make
this exhibition happen since Canary’s inception. Yay
