Yasmin Dubrau
ENGLISH GARDENS, JAPANESE GARDENS, TOPIARY, JAPANESE ORIGAMI,
PAPER, BOUQUETS AND SOFT ATMOSPHERIC GREEN
Exhibition 9 - 19th November 2005

Canary Gallery has become a conservatory
in which to show Yasmin Dubrau’s greenery; a range of
watercolour paintings and painted origami objects evoking
bouquets and foliage. A likeness to the wintergarden is reinforced
with tones of green and blue reflected in the white, vaulted
space.
Yasmin’s practice as one that is light,
explorative and founded on processes allowing her work to
unfold and grow upon itself.
“It is my interest in formal exploration
and study towards perfection that brings me to ‘The
Decorative’. I am interested in the traditional use
of sets of rules used to define beauty. It follows that I
am also interested in Ikebana; the Japanese tradition of flower
arranging that follows strict sets of guidelines on how arrangements
must be achieved. There is no such thing as chance in the
discipline of Ikebana. Origami is not so different nor is
painting, for my purposes.”
