Cabin Fever
work by Kate Brettkelly-Chalmers

Exhibition 10th - 20th November 2004

The detritus of wayward experiments conducted in the confined space of a studio form the basis for Kate’s sculptural installations at Canary.

These precipitants have all the bright colours, unstable ingredients and flashy attraction of high school chemistry but their substance is longer burning.

Trial controls vary according to the restrictions of time, materials at hand, and what is currently being read.
Results on show follow experiments using the form of a tree as a basis for exploring a visual language that includes elements of tension, structure, ill-support, alien hues and tactile surfaces.
