This Year Last Year
Carolin Casey

Exhibition 8 - 18 March 2006

To launch the year’s program we have a fantastic show by recently graduate Carolin Casey. Each of Carolin’s evocative portraits examine a member of her peer group, the 2005 visual arts graduates from AUT.

With her Hassleblad medium format camera the artist has captured something of the naked ambition and hope prevalent in final year graduates - It’s a line up of fresh faced optimism befitting a first solo show and a first show for 2006 at an artist-run space proud to show fresh graduate work.

I am a collector, accumulating typologies of people and environments: this is the Bachelor of Visual Arts class of 2005. Through the individual and the personal, I am discovering relationships that are universally relevant, operating as narrative or temporal identity (removed from reality).

This image one has of oneself and what one conveys to the world -  it is both the deliberate construction and the unconscious representation of self
